There’s a lot of buzz around the new VW ID.4 electric SUV (formerly known as the ID Crozz) with Volkswagen’s goal of releasing a brand new series of carbon-neutral electric vehicles by 2050 as a commitment to the Paris Agreement and doing their part to prevent global warming.

It’s no wonder everybody’s talking about the ID.4. when this is VW's first big step in making their commitment to climate change a reality. The ID.4 will be the first of this series to be sold in the United States—and we’re all waiting for the anticipated release later this year. Over the next 12 months, VW has promised to offer more details on the making of VW ID.4 and how they plan to invest in making electric vehicles affordable for all with an estimated starting cost of $35,000 and three models including the S, SE, and SEL.

“We’re going to invest 11 billion euros ($12.3 billion) in electromobility, more than any other automaker, with the aim of getting it out of its niche and making it affordable for all.” - Ralf Brandstätter, COO of Volkswagen

The highly aerodynamic exterior is formed in Intelligent Design (ID) with the modular electric drive architecture (MEB) based on the ID.CROZZ concept. But the interior will be just as stunning. The compact SUV will offer an open interior with a digital cockpit controlled by both touch and voice interactions, visionary technologies and connectivity, and a high-energy battery pack in the floorboard.

According to preliminary manufacturer estimates by the EPA test cycle, the ID.4 is expected to offer over 250 miles of range between charges—making this one of the most luxurious, yet affordable, electric cars on the market. The ID.4 will launch as a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model but is said to be releasing a sporty rear-wheel-drive configuration along with an all-wheel-drive two-motor variation soon after, with plans to move production to America in 2022.

“Climate change is happening, and it’s time to do something about it. That’s where e-mobility comes in, and Volkswagen is pushing the pace of e-mobility for everyone.”

- Ralf Brandstätter, COO of Volkswagen

With a worldwide target to produce up to 1.5 million electric vehicles across all its brands by 2025—the hype is real with Volkswagen’s commitment to energy-saving vehicles and the VW ID.4. (And we can’t wait to test drive this car ourselves.)
